Thank you for your interest in the Junior League of Des Moines! The Junior League of Des Moines has a membership of more than 400 women from all walks of life. Some of our members are in the workforce while others stay-at-home. We are single and married; young and old; yet we are all dedicated to improving the community through our volunteer efforts!
FAQs of Becoming a New Member
How do I become a member?
Send us a completed New Member Interest Form and attend our monthly New Member meetings starting in September 2017. Additional requirements will be explained during our New Member Social - date, time, and location TBD. There is a financial obligation of $225 for annual dues and a $50 one time Joining Fee.
Are there meetings that I need to attend?
Yes, for your first year you are required to attend 5 out of 7 new member classes and at least 4 out of 8 General Membership Meetings (GMM). General Membership Meetings are held on the first Monday of each month (barring holidays). Social begins at 5:30; with GMM meeting from 6-7 pm. New Member Meetings follow directly after from 7-8 pm. Once you become an active member you will continue to attend the GMMs. Additional committee meetings and volunteer opportunities will be plentiful at your discretion.
Are there service hours required?
Yes. Members are encouraged to help with our signature project and various other opportunities.
What is the financial obligation?
All Active Members have annual dues of $225. There is also a $50 one time Joining fee due at the second New Member meeting. Opportunities for additional donations and fundraising will be available.
What happens once I am a member?
You pick a JLDM Council that fits your interests, needs, and talents. Meeting and financial obligations continue on an annual basis. You also continue to learn how to be the best community volunteer and leader.
Professional Development and Training OpportunitiesThrough the training and experience that our members receive, many have gone on to be actively engaged throughout our community: in business, schools, churches, non-profit boards and elected political positions. We pride ourselves on being an organization that trains women to build a better community!

We are committed to children's health, hunger, and poverty. We do this with a variety of need based community projects.

Our 2015-2017 Project:
Junior League of Des Moines is currently focused on ending human trafficking. Our project includes volunteering and providing funds to a local recovery and transitions home for survivors of sex trafficking. Learn more about this serious issue impacting Iowa and Des Moines here.
The Next Step
If you decide to become a member of the Junior League of Des Moines, you will gain training as a "new member." The new member program will allow you to better understand the history of our League, our mission, vision and goals and above all, the opportunity to make new friends.

New Member Program Dates

The New Member Social date, time, and location are TBD
The new member classes will begin in September and will immediately follow the JLDM General Membership Meetings, held the first Monday of each month. The GMM is from 6-7 pm and the new member class is from 7-8 pm; both at Jasper Winery.
The GMMs are optional, but the new member classes are mandatory.
