President's Message

Welcome to the Junior League of Des  Moines!

We are proud of our legacy in Des Moines  that reaches back to 1926 with 10 charter  members and our joining with the  Association of Junior Leagues  International in 1931 to become the  Junior League of Des Moines. Our  members vary in age, background, race,  profession and more, but all have one  thing in common: the goal to become  trained leaders in our community effecting  change.

Throughout our history we have been a part of some of the great organizations in Greater Des Moines from ChildServe, Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden, Living History Farms and the Science Center. We have worked on issues of childhood obesity reduction, children’s literacy and awareness and support of one of our times most vicious crimes—human trafficking. Junior League of Des Moines has supported Dorothy’s House with initial funding and support to open its doors to help victims of this crime heal. Our community impact can also be measured in the hundreds of trained leaders whom are our members both past and current.

As our mission states, we are an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action  and leadership of trained volunteers. We invite you to join us as we continue this tradition. You may want to become a member. You may want to support us financially. You may be an organization ready to tackle an issue and need a well-trained and organized partner. We welcome you to contact us on any of these topics and look forward to serving Des Moines for many more decades to come!

In Service,

Erica Axiotis

President 2017-2018
